  • Fall inspired candle holders

There’s nothing like the coolness of fall air and the change in the leaves to inspire creation. Whether it’s crafting, baking or creating any type of art, fall is when my creativity peaks. Crafting can be a little expensive so I’ve been trying to find crafts that can save some money and utilize supplies I already have. I’ve come up with a series of holiday décor ideas using beads and jewelry supplies. The first blog in the series features candle holders. Most of my non-jewelry supplies were purchased at a dollar store, cutting down the cost of projects ...

  • Paperclip Cups and Beads!

    Click pictures to enlarge

Welcome to the third installation of crafty office supplies. This weeks’ project are paperclip cups. The projects feature seed beads used in a chevron pattern cross stitch and strung into bead balls. Inspired by the colorful bead balls I’ve seen used in earrings and bracelets I thought I’d give it a try. I don’t claim to be an expert at making bead balls, in fact this was one of my first tries at it, but they were so much fun to make I think I might make more and cover the entire cup in ...

  • Crafty Pencil Cups from Cousin :-)

As a continuation of the first crafty office supply blog, I decided to try my hand at beading pencil cups. I found that the wire mesh cups were the easiest to work with and if you explore a little you may find some interesting shaped cups. The basic black cylindrical cup came from an office supply store and the pink rectangular cup came from Ikea® as a two pack. One of the pink cups was spray painted with gold and metallic spray paints to coordinate with the metallic seed beads.

    For the black pencil ...

  • Even your office desk deserves a little bling :-)

Inspired by a cute paperclip… yes a paper clip, I thought I’d give my office supplies a refresh. Using E-6000®, pliers, a bead reamer, thumb tacks, paper clips and some super cute charms my office supplies took on a new life! They’re certainly a little different but I love how fun they are. I’m hoping the next time I turn in paperwork that my cute little clips will bring a smile to whoever is on the receiving end!

For the thumb tacks I simply took the loops off of the charms (using pliers) and ...

  • DIY Table Top Earring Holder

    From the wonderfully crafty Jennifer.

Looking for a quick DIY earring holder idea that costs less than $3? I made this simple holder for a jewelry class when I wanted to showcase inspiration pieces. All you need is a two sided frame and a sheet of plastic canvas.

The frame is a 4x6” two sided plastic table top frame purchased from IKEA®. The 14-count white plastic canvas was purchased at a local craft store.

    1. First remove the two plexiglass pieces from the frame.
    2. Then use one of the plexiglass rectangles as a template for cutting the perfect size piece of plastic canvas.
    3. Just ...

  • DIY Napkin Rings make matching Easy!

Inspired by the pre-made napkin rings at home décor stores I thought I’d give it a try making my own. I discovered just how easy it was to make whimsical and elegant napkin rings using a few of my jewelry making supplies. Of course the upside to this is that I’ll have colors that compliment my own décor.

I fashioned an elegant napkin ring using 3-strand spacers, gemstone faceted beads, copper e-beads and stretch cord. I used three 10” lengths of .8mm stretch cord, it’s a thicker cord, and strung on the gemstones and e-beads and then through a spacer hole and repeated the process until ...

  • Place Card Holders

As a follow up to the wine charms from a few weeks ago I decided to venture into making place card holders. Inspired by whimsical wedding place card holders, I created a few fun pieces featuring gauge wires and seed beads, pearls, crystals and glass beads in a variety of designs including underwater theme, hearts and spirals.

With only a few of my jewelry tools, round nose pliers and wire cutters, I began by making the base. Starting with a 2 foot length of 16 gauge wire, I made a loop at the end and formed the circular ...
